This month was the long-awaited Super Bowl, and there is more talk about the halftime show rather than the game itself. The Puerto Rican singing powerhouse Bad Bunny performed this year, and it was star-studded.
Lady Gaga had a brief section, and there were many other celebrities who were featured on the set itself. The music was loud, blasting the energetic rhythm across the stadium.
People took the show as a political statement, but that’s not what was intended. The biggest issue being addressed by the federal government is that the lyrics were all in Spanish. The Federal Communications Commission requested a transcript of the performance, and the head commissioner looked over the transcript and told Reuters, “I reviewed them carefully, and I found no violation of our rules and no justification for harassing broadcasters over a standard live performance.”
U.S. President, Donald Trump, also had a few choice words to say about the show. He said it was “…an affront to the Greatness of America.”
Most people I’ve seen have absolutely loved the show, and I saw no problem with it. I personally do not speak more than a paragraph’s worth of the language, but the performance was just something to enjoy, in my opinion. We are a huge mix of different cultures, and that’s what makes our music landscape so diverse. Music is a universal language, and we shouldn’t limit it to one language or culture.
