You may or may not have heard of the comedy-detective show “Psych.” Chances are, you haven’t. This show is about a man named Shawn Spencer who has the power of being exceptionally observant. He can easily pick up on small details and then solve a crime. One day, he’s accused of committing a crime, but he convinces the police that he’s psychic. He then starts solving cases for the Santa Barbara Police Department with his best friend, Gus.
Psych is one of the most underrated detective shows out there, and everybody should watch it. I can easily rate this show a four out of five stars. Each episode is original and has an interesting case to solve while also being extremely funny, but it can also handle more serious situations really well.
An example of this show handling more serious topics well is when, later in the show, Shawn’s dad gets seriously injured. Shawn has a really rocky relationship with his dad, but he still cares for him a lot. You see in the episode that Shawn will go to whatever lengths to find his dad’s attacker. In this moment, you see how much their relationship has grown compared to the early seasons, showing that over time, strained relationships can be healed.
The show also has entertaining cases to be solved in each episode. “Psych excelled at delivering engaging storylines that combined standard episodes with longer narrative arcs” (Vocal Media). This shows that each episode is new and interesting. And storylines are never repeated or reused. I personally know that I’ve never found myself bored while watching one of these episodes.
It’s hard to hold your laughter in while watching this show because basically all the jokes in this show are funny, albeit a bit silly at times, but that just adds to the charm. “Psych is comedy at its finest. The show has perfect joke timing and is always delivered perfectly by the cast” (Echo Newspaper). This shows that even though there are eight seasons of this show, you can never get tired of their jokes.
I would recommend this show to people who love comedy and want to start watching detective shows. Psych is a great place to start because it’s a perfect blend of the two, and it’s lighthearted, so it’s an easy watch.
I definitely think it’s worth your time to watch this because I spent months watching all eight seasons, being hooked from episode one, and I don’t regret it at all.
Stream it on Fandango at Home or Peacock.
