Hello! I’m reviewing the relatively new show on Netflix, Big Mistakes, starring Taylor Ortega, and Dan Levy. This show gives insight into two siblings’ lives as they become wrapped up in organized crime, as well as their struggling and hilariously offbeat family.
Big Mistakes has gotten a lot of attention, with reviews from NPR, and a 95% on Rotten Tomatoes. “It’s a high energy caper with just the right hint of sass (Rotten Tomatoes).”
I believe the acting is confident, emotional, and hilarious. You can really see the characters coming to life. For example, Dan Levy possibly used his own life experience to portray a pastor who is in the closet, and other themes in the show. “I happen to come from a family that expresses love, expresses panic, expresses anxiety in heated conversations. And I really wanted to set the table for the audience that this is who this family is, and this is who these characters are by way of family tree (Levy).”
On a different note, the plot is gripping and full of plot twists, leaving the watcher craving more. In just the span of eight episodes a lifetime of chaos unfolds. While Levy didn’t have much experience writing crime shows, the ideas seemed to come easily. “The ideas never stopped flowing. I knew that we were onto something good because you never hit the wall. We wrote the pilot in a day (Levy).”
To sum it up, this show has ingenious acting, and a plot that leaves watchers wanting more. If you are looking for a good comedy and an exciting watch, Big Mistakes is for you!
