Artist’s Statement
My photographic essay captures the lives of both classes in The Outsiders. The leaves and woods show the greasers, and how they live against society. That aspect shows that they flourish in the “in between”. Everywhere you look you seem to find something that excludes the norm.
The trees show perspective; we constantly look at the world, or what we see as the whole picture. But understanding that a single person’s view is only their impression of the home we all call Earth. When you narrow your view, you begin to see the beauty of a single perspective. The ability to actually interact and change the world is something many take for granted. How you’re looking at something can impact what you’re looking at.
The colored pictures show one’s true perspective, rather than what one is born into.
As a whole, this photographic essay shows the viewpoints of the world in comparison and contrast. Find beauty in the little things, like a simple flower.
It seems that everywhere you look you can find weird kids—but maybe, they’re not weird, just — outsiders.
