The IHMS musical, Matilda, has just come to an end. For some, it might be a relief to finally be done with the musical. For others, it’s bittersweet.
The final performance of Matilda was on Saturday, May 9. After the performance, actors had to do Strike, which is where you clean up the locker rooms and other areas. Then, after the work had been done, actors met in the main gym for a cast party. The party included such activities as making a candy salad, signing posters and shirts, and more!
I decided to ask Geuliana Cervantes, Annie Brewer, Juni Allen, Emma Hobick, and Remy Barnard a few questions about the closing night and if it was different from the rest of the performances.
Geuliana (who plays Ms Phelps, the librarian), stated her favorite part of closing night was crying happy tears after the party.
Annie (who plays the acrobat), said, “I think what made closing night different from the rest of the nights was the excitement of every scene being the last time we got to perform it. On closing night, we no longer have to save our voice or energy, so we put in every bit of energy we have left in us to make it the best we can.”
Juni (who plays Mrs Wormwood, Matilda’s mother), told me her favorite part of closing night was swapping wigs with Patrick (a fellow cast member).
When asked what made closing night different, Emma (who plays Miss Honey, Matilda’s teacher) responded, “It was definitely more bittersweet since it was the last show we would do together!”
And finally, Remy (who plays Agatha Trunchbull, the main villain in the musical), told me her favorite part of closing night was getting to see all of her friends.
Matilda the Musical may have closed its curtain for the last time, but the memories everyone gained from it will always be something they’ll cherish.
