Everyone knows that things change, including clothing & style, but noone really knows why things constantly become
popular and then unpopular. Fashion has evolved and also has made comebacks by students expressing themselves with
their fashion sense.
Fashion is a form of communication or a reaction to the world. Some people, for example, find new trends on social media
and purchase those new accessories/clothes and wear them as their new style. But not all students are the same exact style and they vary a lot depending on the students. Most people are curious about what suddenly becomes the new trend or how these styles evolve.
Indian Hills is a mix of all different subcultures, including layering & maximalism, retro revival, the comeback of older
styles from decades including 80s and 2000s, grandma core, which is a thrifty kind of style with sweaters and a coffee
shop vibe, cottage core, a more whimsical/fairy vibe, alternative, and the most common being a more comfy basic style
that includes the brands lululemon, new balance, free people, aviator nation, brandy melville, aritzia, etc.
Fashion has evolved from “fitting in” at school into a diverse landscape where self-expression and cultural identity is shown. Some people even use their style to connect with others that have similar style, which could be showing off music they like by wearing band tees or what hobbies they have.
Trends will inevitably fade, and today’s “must haves” will eventually end up in the back of a closet or at a thrift store, but
for now the halls of schools remain a living gallery for who we are, one vintage shirt and leggings at a time.
