Recently, all performance 1 and 2 students attended “The Play That Goes Wrong” at the White theater. This play is known for its dangerous stunts, and extravagant special effects. They saw the play to learn more about the different parts of acting, which performance 1 is currently learning about.
“My favorite stunt was when the guy completely fell off the platform, and I thought it was really cool how he was hanging on for dear life!” exclaimed Marilyn Maxwell, a performance 1 student, when asked about her favorite stunt in the show.
The play is essentially a play inside a play, it is about a group of bad actors who are trying to put on a murder mystery play. Students laughed, screamed, and wondered: how are they pulling this off? It was hilariously executed, and the acting was on point.
“I think it took a lot of effort to make mistakes in the play, and look like its not supposed to happen,” shared Maxwell.
After the show, there was a Q&A with the cast, crew, and director. Students could ask whatever they wanted to know about the actors and technical aspects of the show. Here are some the questions and answers shared!
Q: How do you pick people to do the first bit of the show, where you invite a random person from the audience onto the stage?
A: “It is really a wild card, you never know if they are going to play along, or not. Some days people cooperate great, and somedays it’s a struggle.”
Q: What are some of the hardest stunts in the show?
A: “Some of the hardest stunts were someone getting fake knocked out, someone getting carried out on a broken stretcher, and holding on when the platform they were standing on fell down.”
Many other schools went to the play, but the Indian Hills group was, by far, the biggest group. Students sat with their friends as they looked in wonder at the memorable performance. “The Play That Goes Wrong” surely inspired many students to further pursue acting, or stage work.
Maxwell added “It takes a really good actor to be a really bad actor.”.
